TELEGRAPH TYPES
Reprinted from "Crown Jewels of the Wire", July 2005, page 44

Collector Galen Howard pursues telegraph, and only telegraph, insulators.

His speciality is to find outstanding examples of insulators designed specifically for telegraph usage.

Galen says many collectors tend to think that telegraph insulators are found mostly in aqua. And he admits finding colorful examples is a challenge.

Shown on these two pages, as well as the back cover, and the inside of the back cover, are insulators from Galen's collection that prove his success in meeting that challenge!

Editor's note:
We asked Galen to send us a mug shot of himself.
Go figure!

Here's another favorite from Galen Howard's collection of representative telegraph insulators. It's a CD 159 Gregory. This insulator has square sides with sharp corners that were damaged easily in use. Finding a Gregory in decent condition is difficult enough. But with the amber swirl, this example is exceptional. Shown on the back cover is Galen's deep amethyst CD 132, an early Hemingray product.
